They think it's all Over - it is. #FocusFriday

Updated: Oct 27, 2023

Over is a growing village situated close to the River Great Ouse, 10miles from both Huntingdon and Cambridge and close to the Fen Lakes.

(You can find a map of the area at the bottom of this page along with links to local services.)

The large, attractive and open village green is at the hub of the village and is framed by some attractive houses that lead you to High Street. There is some interesting architecture that is a product of a Dutch influence on the village (a Dutch engineer drained the Fens), such as the Old Black Horse on High Street. On the same street you can find the local convenience store and the Admiral Vernon pub. This family run local pub is a welcoming place to feel part of the village as well as to relax with a drink. The sun was beginning to soak the lovely back garden on the day I was in the village and if you're there on a Friday, you can try your luck with the meat raffle. Find out more about the pub by following this link when you click here. (Update Oct 2023 - this pub looks like it is potentially changing owners so garden and meat raffle might be changing!)

St. Mary's Church in Over is quite striking - the mixture of features from 13th and 14th Century are highlighted by the collection of gargoyles in the shape of animals and strange beasts! It also has a grand entrance and one of the tallest spires in the county.

You have the river and the Fen Lakes nearby but right on your doorstep all around the village are numerous routes for different ales across the picturesque countryside including down the footpath towards the Ouse Fen Reserve.

You can watch the short video to see a little more of Over village:

Belinda moved to Over recently and when I spoke to her, this is what she had to say about their move:

"We moved to Over last year and immediately felt at home, it’s an incredibly friendly, welcoming village and we couldn’t be happier with our choice to move here.

We’re dog owners, so having countryside walks was really important to us. We have not been disappointed, we are completely spoilt for choice. We have riverside walks and beautiful lakes all on our doorstep.

Several pubs are also within walking distance!"
